Our Westchester NY-based scuba club is now in it’s 41st year ! There is such a legacy of scuba diving experience, fellowship, diving knowledge and community engagement in our members and in our Club’s history. My participation in the life of our Club these past five years, with the leadership positions of Club Officer and Club Director which I have held, has greatly enriched my life. The Club and our dives and field trips together have brought fascinating and wondrous moments to my friends and me. Through Club meetings, I have met some transformational leaders and have had engaging conversations with Dr. Eugenie Clark, Stan Waterman, mountaineers Conrad Anker and Jimmy Chin, Dr. Sylvia Earle, Zig Zighan and his wife JoAnne, Valerie Taylor, Bernie Choudhury, Brett Gillam, Vreni Roduner, several of the Cousteaus and Carl Safina. One of my projects was to scan in high resolution hundreds upon hundreds of photo prints accumulated throughout the 40+ year history of the Club, and thus preserve this legacy for the future. It was a true labor of love for me, honoring all those who donned their fins, masks, and air tanks and pioneered the sport to which I was a late-comer but which I have come to love. So… grab your fins and mask. and I’ll meet you on the boat dock!
